venue #1 Now Rest

Now Rest, Leith, is our first venue. It’s a fabulously retro greasy spoon run by Donna Hand. Donna and her husband took over the cafe in 2004, but she and the cafe have a much longer history. Now Rest, formerly Canasta’s, was the place where Donna used to be brought for dinner as a treat when she was a young child. Later as a teenager she’d meet her friends there on a Sunday morning to dissect the events of the night before. When the opportunity to buy the cafe came up, she felt she could not miss out on the opportunity to own something that has been part of her life from such an early age.

The cafe is a central point for the local community and has lots of regulars coming in for the home-cooked breakfast. Donna prides herself on cooking from scratch, no frozen chips here! We are very grateful to Donna for letting us take over her cafe for Burgher Burger #1 on 7 February. We understand that she’s taking a risk by letting a group of upstarts in to run an event. So let’s show our appreciation by dropping by and partaking in one of her legendary breakfasts. Go on, you know you want to!
